My power went out in a room, what do I do?"There can be many reasons why power has suddenly gone out in a section of your house but not the whole house. Below are a few common things we've found over the years that if you try, you can save a lot of money on service calls Check all breakers in all panels - it's most liekly that a breaker has tripped. If so, turn the breaker off all the way before turning it on. You'll be suprised hpw many people get this one wrong. Check to see if there are any tripped GFCI outlets - sometimes a bad "electrician" will power a circuit off of a GFCI outlet that shouldnt be GFCI protected. Push the reset button on the GFCI outlet to see if this restores power Check to see if there are any mystery switches in the house that you maybe havent used in years. Maybe you or one of your guets flipped somethign that just so happened to control the outlets in your room. Check if any outlets or devices have black charring around them or and funny smells or sounds. If so, call us up and let us know what you've found. Above are some common things that may cause a room to suddenly lose power. If you checked everything and still have no power, its time to call an electrician. It may be a more serious issue that should be handled by the professionals.

What is the process of a service upgrade?First we come look at the property, panel, meter, and riser (the wire that goes from the meter to the utility lines). Then we collect deposit, submit plans to the electrical inspection agency, secure electrical permit, file work order with Central Hudson and get a J number from them, and schedule for disconnect. Next, we come replace the meter pan, riser, line from meter to panel, panel, and breakers. Sometimes it's also necessary to upgrade your grounding system to the current NEC standard. Then power is restored to your new service and we bill the remainder of the job.
-
What size Generator do I need? This depends on a few factors but the following wattage averages can be added up for each appliance/circuit you're looking to power. Don't forget to factor in the surge wattage!
